Job summary

Alpaca, a US-headquartered leader in brokerage infrastructure, is seeking a Senior/Staff Software Engineer to lead the team building our algo trading platform. You will architect and write code across frontend and backend, and own the team's roadmap, delivery, and engineers' growth.

This is a hands-on leadership role within a distributed, remote-first team. Expect deep work across CPU-level performance, low latency, and high-throughput design while influencing product direction and architecture.

Qualifications

• Senior or staff level software engineer with team leadership experience.
• Proven ability to deliver complex systems on schedule and scale.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical direction and architecture for team services.
• Break down business goals into sequenced engineering work and ship it.
• Plan sprints, unblock engineers, and maintain visibility of work for stakeholders.
• Set quality standards through code reviews and design docs; contribute code.
• Own production reliability, latency targets, and incident follow-through.
• Hire, onboard, and grow engineers; mentor and give feedback.
• Collaborate with product, operations, compliance, and other engineering teams.
