Job summary

Alpaca leads in brokerage infrastructure and seeks a Team Lead to steer the algo trading platform. You will design and architect the system, write code, and make technical decisions while guiding the team’s growth and roadmap.

This hands-on leadership role requires deep frontend/backend knowledge, distributed systems, and experience with OMS/RMS. You’ll work with a distributed, remote-first team across time zones.

Qualifications

• Senior or staff level with prior team leadership experience.
• Track record delivering complex systems on schedule.
• Coding skills in C/C++, Go, Zig, Rust, Java, Scala, Python.
• Experience with low latency, high throughput optimizations.
• Experience with OMS/RMS and trading/exchange systems.
• Clear written and verbal communication with stakeholders.
• Comfort operating with ambiguity in a startup.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical direction and architecture for the team’s services.
• Own roadmap, break down goals into scoped engineering work, ship predictably.
• Lead sprint planning, unblock engineers, maintain visible progress.
• Set code/design quality standards through reviews and docs.
• Own production reliability, latency targets, incident follow-through.
• Hire, onboard, give feedback, and grow a small team of engineers.
• Collaborate across product, operations, compliance, and other teams.
