Job summary

The Mexican American Opportunity Foundation in Los Angeles seeks a staff person dedicated to providing opportunities for children that promote social, physical, and cognitive growth. Responsibilities include planning activities tailored to each child's individual strengths and integrating parents' goals into daily routines.

Ideal candidates have a degree in Child Development or related fields, hold a valid Teacher Permit, and possess strong communication skills, along with two years of experience with children aged 0-5.

Job description

A staff person who provides planned opportunities for children inactivities designed to promote social, physical, and cognitive growth and development. Responsible for planning individual and group activities that are designed to promote each child’s individual strengths, ongoing assessments, and observations. Incorporates parent’s goals for their child into the daily activities.

Qualifications
  • AA/BAdegree in Child Development, or 24 units in ECE and/or Child Development orrelated field. If you don’t possess a BA degree, you will be placed on a Professional Staff Development Plan and continuously complete courses towards adegree.
  • Must possess a valid Teacher Permit from the CCTC, preferred.
  • Pediatric First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certified.
  • Two (2) years paid experience working with children 0-5. Experience working with Infant/toddlers is highly desirable.
  • Ability to communicate, both oral and written
  • Ability to speak, read and write English well enough to understand and be understood by others.
  • Ability to relate to diverse groups of people including low-income families.
  • Sensitive to others needs.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Sincere commitment to providing services to children and the community.
  • Ability to assess and respond quickly to varied situations.
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish) preferred.
Special Qualifications
  • Must complete AB 1207 California Childcare Providers: Mandated Reporter Training within 90 days of hire, renewed every two (2) years.
  • Must submit to a pre-employment physical examination, drug screening and Tuberculosis (TB) clearance.
  • Must provide vaccination records for Pertussis (Tdap), Measles (MMR) and Influenza (optional).
  • Will be finger printed and must clear through DOJ and FBI.
  • Must possess own vehicle, valid California Driver’s License and at minimum, general liability automobile insurance.
  • Hold a valid First Aid and CPR certificate.
