Job summary

PUC Schools is seeking a Teacher Assistant to support classroom activities at our Sylmar campus. You will assist with tests, homework, schedules, and student files while helping teachers prepare lesson plans and reinforce learning in small groups.

Ideal candidates have a bachelor's degree (or 12 units/18 quarters), 1+ year experience with students, and strong communication. The role emphasizes teamwork, reliability, and a commitment to student success.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree preferred or 12 semester units/18 quarter units in progress.
  • 1+ years of experience working with students is preferred.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with tests, homework, program reviews, reports, student files, schedules, and other instructional tasks.
  • Help teachers prepare lesson plans and reinforce learning in small groups.
  • Build relationships with students and parents to support college preparation goals.
  • Contribute to a safe, nurturing classroom and participate in assigned duties.

The Team Member we are searching for

The ideal Teacher Assistant believes in and is passionate about the mission and commitments of PUC Schools and exhibits this through their leadership, reflection, execution of school culture, and collaboration to ensure student success.

What you will need to accomplish
  • Assist with: tests, homework, program reviews, reports, student files, schedules, and any other instructional program assignments
  • Help teachers prepare lesson plans
  • Work with smaller groups of students for remedial teaching or reinforcing the learning process
  • Build strong relationships with students and parents
  • Establish an environment where students are excited about learning and preparing for college
  • Foster a safe and nurturing learning environment
  • Build professional knowledge
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Minimum Qualifications
  • Education:
    • Possess a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred OR Must complete 12 semester units and/or 18 quarter units and be currently enrolled for the same units
  • Experience:
    • 1+ years of experience working with students in a learning environment preferred
Skills and Abilities
  • Proficient with Microsoft Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)

  • Must be flexible and team-oriented
  • Able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred
  • Strong work ethic, accountability, and ownership of work
  • Regular attendance, dependability, and punctuality in conformance with the standards are essential to the successful performance of this position
Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Occasionally required to kneel, climb and reach with hands and arms above shoulder level, lift up to 30 pounds. To bend, sit, stand, squat, stoop, walk, push, pull, and reach with hands and arms at shoulder level or below. Always required to wear the appropriate safety equipment for the task, which may include gloves, goggles, aprons, belts, etc.
