Job summary

PUC Schools in Los Angeles is seeking a dedicated teacher to foster a safe, engaging learning environment aligned with California standards. The role emphasizes collaboration, lesson planning, and partnerships with families to support student achievement.

The ideal candidate will hold a valid Preliminary or Clear Teaching Credential (Single Subject or Multiple Subject) or be eligible for University Internship Credential.

Qualifications

  • Possession of a valid Preliminary or Clear Single Subject or Multiple Subject Credential or University Internship Credential eligibility.
  • Qualification for a permit if the applicant does not possess a credential is required.
  • Satisfy Basic Skills Requirement (CBEST, SAT, ACT, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Foster a safe and nurturing learning environment.
  • Build professional knowledge and instructional practice.
  • Organize classroom systems and procedures; manage student behavior.
  • Develop and maintain IATs (lesson plans) aligned to California standards.
  • Communicate with parents/guardians on a weekly basis.
  • Collaborate with Inclusion Specialist to meet diverse student needs.
  • Attend Academic Success Team and Parent/Teacher Advisory Council meetings.
  • Demonstrate leadership and participate in professional development.

Organization OverviewPartnerships to Uplift Communities (PUC) Schools is comprised of a non-profit network of public charter schools designed to significantly increase high school graduation rates, college entrance, and college graduation rates for underserved students in North-East Los Angeles, and the North-East San Fernando Valley.Our mission at PUC Schools is to develop and manage high-quality charter schools in densely populated urban communities with overcrowded and low-achieving schools. We uplift and revitalize communities through the success of our students and through inspiring them to uplift our communities now and forever and through the development of educational and other supportive partnerships.The Team Member we are searching forThe ideal Teacher believes in and is passionate about the mission and commitments of PUC Schools and exhibits this through their leadership, reflection, execution of school culture, and collaboration to ensure student success.What you will need to accomplish:Foster a safe and nurturing learning environmentBuild professional knowledgeOrganize classroom systems/procedures and manage student behavior to ensure all students are fully engaged in learningDevelop and maintain IATs (lesson plans)Establish environment where students are excited about learning and preparing for collegeDevelop lesson plans according to the California state standardsPrepare lesson plans for substitute teacherBuild strong relationships with students and parentsCommunicate with parents/guardians on a weekly basisIdentify the student's areas for improvement and work with the student, family, and internal resources to suggest options for improvementProvide continual assessment of student progress, maintain student records and portfolios, and complete assigned paperwork in provided time framesConduct both student and teacher-lead parent conferencesCollaborate with the Inclusion Specialist to meet the needs of all studentsAttend and participate in Academic Success Team, Parent/Teacher Advisory Council, and other school-based meetings and activitiesPerform disseminated leadership dutiesAttend and implement professional development training throughout and beyond the school yearDemonstrate support and knowledge of the school's goals and missionDetail-oriented when tracking students' grades, attendance, etc.Work with the Principal and Assistant Principal to ensure teaching methods are directed towards meeting and surpassing the standardsAttend and participate in school-based meetings and activitiesPerform other duties as assignedWhat do we require from you?Minimum QualificationsEducation:Possession of a valid Preliminary or Clear Single Subject or Multiple Subject Credential ORUniversity Internship Credential eligible (Intern eligibility letter required) ORQualification for a permit if the applicant does not possess a credential is required. PUC Schools can further advise on qualifications after an application has been submittedSatisfy Basic Skills Requirement (met through coursework and/or passing scores on standardized tests i.e., CBEST, SAT, ACT, etc.)Experience:Solid knowledge of the subject matter, including California State Standards and subject-specific frameworks and assessmentsSkills and AbilitiesKnowledge of diversity in society, including diverse abilities, culture, language, ethnicity, and gender orientationProficient with Microsoft Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OutlookExcellent communication skills (verbal and written)Able to analyze qualitative and quantitative student dataAlignment with core characteristics required of every PUC employee: pursuit of excellence, innovation, community, tenacity, and authenticityMust be flexible and team-orientedAble to multi-task in a fast-paced environmentBilingual in Spanish preferredStrong work ethic, accountability, and ownership of workRegular attendance, dependability, and punctuality in conformance with the standards are essential to the successful performance of this positionThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Occasionally required to kneel, climb, and reach with hands and arms above shoulder level, lift up to 30 pounds. To bend, sit, stand, squat, stoop, walk, push, pull, and reach with hands and arms at shoulder level or below.
