Eckerd Connects, at Old Dominion Job Corps in Monroe, VA, seeks an Academic Instructor to deliver instruction in designated subjects within a residential career training program. You will foster a positive classroom climate, promote student motivation and maintain discipline to optimize learning outcomes.

The role requires Virginia teaching certification or reciprocity, a valid driver’s license, and compliance with drug screening and background checks.

Annual Salary: $50,000

*Sign-on Bonus $5,000 (for Virginia certified teachers and subject to payment terms)

Duties & Responsibilities

• The Academic Instructor performs as an instructor in a regular classroom setting, presenting instructions in designated subject area.
• The Academic Instructor promotes a positive and desirable atmosphere within the classroom setting to insure maximum student motivation.
• Maintains a high degree of discipline within the classroom setting in order to insure maximum learning.
• Establishes a high degree of student/instructor rapport.
• Utilizes all possible curriculum resources available.
• Maintains student personnel folders; records and forwards daily attendance to the Student Records area.

Qualifications

• Certified to teach in state of Virginia or ability to obtain certification through reciprocity.
• Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record preferred.
• Required to pass a drug screen in compliance with our Substance Abuse and Drug-Free Workplace policy.
• Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a nationwide criminal background check.

About our Program

Job Corps is the largest nationwide residential career training program in the country and has been operating for more than 60 years. The program helps eligible young people ages 16 through 24 complete their high school education, trains them for meaningful careers, and assists them with obtaining employment.
