Job summary

Community Progress Council, Inc. seeks dedicated teachers to join its Head Start program in York County. You will deliver high-quality early childhood education, partner with families, and support children’s growth across multiple sites.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, Child and Family Studies, or Elementary Education, plus at least one year of experience with preschool children.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules and procedures in English; bilingual skills in Spanish, Haitian-Creole, or Arabic desirable.
  • Strong verbal skills to present information and write clear reports.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite in a Windows environment preferred.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding children and family information.
  • Willingness to participate in agency task forces and work groups.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development in early childhood education.
  • Flexibility to adjust work schedule for program functions and parent needs.
  • Reliable transportation to multiple sites in York County; possible start at different locations.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with families and colleagues.

Responsibilities

  • Use assessment tools to track development and coordinate support.
  • Maintain timely lesson plans, observations, and child records.
  • Integrate health, nutrition, and family services into daily learning.
  • Conduct routine health checks and report concerns promptly.
  • Support and mentor assistant teachers with professionalism.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Mission-Driven: Champion the vision and mission of Head Start of York County and Community Progress Council, Inc. through dedicated service and advocacy for children and families.
  • Early Childhood Expertise: Apply best practices in child development, early learning, and positive behavior guidance to support every child's growth.
  • Positive Learning Environment: Create a safe, welcoming, and culturally responsive classroom that encourages respect, curiosity, and active engagement.
  • Collaborative Teaching: Partner with families and colleagues to plan meaningful learning experiences that build language, problem-solving, and social-emotional skills.
  • Structured & Engaging Instruction: Maintain a consistent daily routine that includes interactive group activities, music, outdoor learning, and smooth transitions.
  • Intentional Preparation: Organize materials and adapt learning environments to meet the diverse needs of individual children and groups.
  • Family Partnership: Strengthen family engagement through conferences, home visits, education activities, and shared goal-setting for children's success.
  • Assessment & Support: Use assessment tools to track development, identify needs, and collaborate with families and staff to provide appropriate support.
  • Accurate Documentation: Maintain timely and compliant lesson plans, observations, and child records.
  • Whole-Child Approach: Integrate health, nutrition, family services, and social-emotional learning into daily classroom experiences.
  • Health & Safety Focus: Conduct routine health checks and promptly report concerns to ensure child well-being and protection.
  • Leadership & Mentorship: Support and guide assistant teachers while modeling professionalism, flexibility, accountability, and excellence in early childhood education.

Requirements
Education and Qualifications:

  • Flexibility: Ability to adjust work schedule for program functions and parent needs.
  • Transportation: Reliable transportation to multiple sites throughout York County; regular and timely attendance is essential. May be required to start the workday at different locations without additional travel compensation.
  • Customer Service: Demonstrates strong interpersonal and communication skills to provide exceptional service to families and colleagues.
