Job summary

Community Progress Council, Inc. is seeking Assistant Teachers to support Head Start classrooms in York County. You’ll partner with the Lead Teacher to deliver engaging, play‑based learning that sparks curiosity and keeps children safe and healthy.

You’ll involve families and volunteers, work with a team of specialists, and help every child thrive while maintaining confidentiality and a collaborative spirit.

Qualifications

  • Education: HS diploma or GED with preschool or elementary experience.
  • Certification: pursue CDA within two years with program support.
  • Strong English reading and speaking; bilingual abilities are a plus.
  • Build positive, respectful relationships with children, families and communities.
  • Comfort with Microsoft Office tools and basic technology.

Responsibilities

Community Progress Council, Inc. is looking for passionate Assistant Teachers to support Head Start classrooms across York County. In this role, you’ll partner with the Lead Teacher to deliver engaging, high-quality learning experiences that spark creativity, curiosity, and a love of learning—while maintaining a safe, healthy classroom environment.

You’ll also help build strong family connections by involving parents and volunteers in meaningful classroom activities, supporting the growth of both children and their families.

Our team includes Family Coaches, Behavior Support Specialists, Instructional Experts, and Health & Nutrition professionals—all working together to create an inclusive, supportive environment where every child can thrive through play-based learning and positive guidance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Requirements
Education and Qualifications
  • Education & Experience: High school diploma or GED, plus at least one year in a preschool or elementary setting.
  • Certification: Earn your Child Development Associate (CDA) within two years—Head Start will support you.
  • Communication: Strong English reading and speaking skills; bilingual (Spanish, Haitian Creole, or Arabic) is a plus.
  • People Skills: Build positive, respectful relationships with children, families, and diverse communities.
  • Child Development Knowledge: Understand basic development and effective behavior strategies.
  • Tech Skills: Comfortable with Microsoft Office (preferred).
  • Professionalism: Deliver excellent customer service while maintaining confidentiality at all times.
