Job summary

Community Progress Council in York County, PA, seeks an enthusiastic Teacher to inspire young learners within Head Start. The role emphasizes early childhood development, family engagement, and a collaborative classroom culture.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Champion the vision and mission of Head Start of York County and CPC through dedicated service and advocacy for children and families.
  • Apply best practices in child development, early learning, and positive behavior guidance to support every child's growth.
  • Create a safe, welcoming, culturally responsive classroom that encourages respect, curiosity, and active engagement.
  • Partner with families and colleagues to plan meaningful learning experiences that build language, problem-solving, and social-emotional skills.
  • Maintain a consistent daily routine with interactive group activities, music, outdoor learning, and smooth transitions.
  • Organize materials and adapt learning environments to meet diverse needs.
  • Strengthen family engagement through conferences and home visits; set shared goals for children's success.
  • Use assessment tools to track development and collaborate with families and staff to provide support.
  • Maintain timely and compliant lesson plans, observations, and child records.
  • Integrate health, nutrition, family services, and social-emotional learning into daily learning.

  • Collaborative Teaching: Partner with families and colleagues to plan meaningful learning experiences that build language, problem-solving, and social-emotional skills.
  • Structured & Engaging Instruction: Maintain a consistent daily routine that includes interactive group activities, music, outdoor learning, and smooth transitions.
  • Intentional Preparation: Organize materials and adapt learning environments to meet the diverse needs of individual children and groups.
  • Family Partnership: Strengthen family engagement through conferences, home visits, education activities, and shared goal-setting for children's success.
  • Assessment & Support: Use assessment tools to track development, identify needs, and collaborate with families and staff to provide appropriate support.
  • Accurate Documentation: Maintain timely and compliant lesson plans, observations, and child records.
  • Whole-Child Approach: Integrate health, nutrition, family services, and social-emotional learning into daily classroom experiences.
  • Health & Safety Focus: Conduct routine health checks and promptly report concerns to ensure child well-being and protection.
  • Leadership & Mentorship: Support and guide assistant teachers while modeling professionalism, flexibility, accountability, and excellence in early childhood education.
  • Communication: Listens for understanding and meaning; speaks and writes effectively.
  • Relationships: Builds rapport and relates well to others.
  • Inclusion: Works effectively with people of different backgrounds, abilities, opinions and perceptions.
  • Community Focus: Demonstrates a desire to serve others and fulfill the needs of CPC participants.
  • Influence: Seeks first to understand the other person’s point of view and remains calm in challenging situations.
  • Quality Results: Strives to meet or exceed goals; delivers a high- value experience for children and families.
Education and Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, Child and Family Studies, or Elementary Education, plus at least one year of experience working with preschool children. An associate degree in these fields may be considered.
  • Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals in English. Bilingual skills in Spanish, Haitian-Creole, or Arabic are desirable.
  • Communication: Strong verbal skills to effectively present information to groups and write clear reports and correspondence.
  • Technology: Experience with Microsoft Office Suite in a Windows environment preferred.
  • Confidentiality: Ability to maintain strict confidentiality regarding children and family information.
  • Engagement: Willingness to actively participate in agency task forces and work groups to advance Head Start goals.
  • Professional Growth: Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying current with early childhood education strategies.
  • Flexibility: Ability to adjust work schedule for program functions and parent needs.
  • Transportation: Reliable transportation to multiple sites throughout York County; regular and timely attendance is essential. May be required to start the workday at different locations without additional travel compensation.
  • Customer Service: Demonstrates strong interpersonal and communication skills to provide exceptional service to families and colleagues.
