Job summary

Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) is seeking an Engineer III to join the Water Supply Division in Austin. The role involves in-office and on-site engineering reviews, analyses, and ensuring compliance with applicable laws and policies while coordinating follow-up actions.

The successful candidate will provide engineering assistance to public water systems, support internal and external communications, and deliver customer service for the drinking water program.

Qualifications

  • Texas Professional Engineer's license plus two years of full-time engineering experience beyond licensure.
  • Qualifying work experience that obtained post licensure as an engineering graduate student or teacher.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct in office and/or on-site engineering reviews, analyses, quality control and evaluations, ensuring compliance with laws, regulations, policies and procedures; follow up with actions.
  • Provide information and engineering assistance concerning requests and submittals from public water systems through verbal communication, email, meetings, on-site assistance, and presentations.
  • Provide customer service to internal and external customers related to the agency's drinking water program through verbal and written communication, correspondence, reports, meetings, presentations, and PIR responses.
  • Provide training and mentoring to other staff; serve as a subject matter expert engineer for assigned programs/topics.

YOUR FUTURE TEAM

As part of TCEQ Office of Water, you would help support the logistical and operational structure for TCEQ statewide -- the business foundation for the whole agency.
This position is a member of our Water Supply Division.

Here's What You'll Be Doing
  • Conduct in office and/or on-site engineering and technical reviews, analyses, quality control and evaluations of routine to highly complex information from internal and external customers to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures; and follow up with appropriate actions.
  • Provide information and engineering assistance concerning requests and submittals from public water systems to internal and external customers through verbal communication, email, correspondence, meetings, on-site assistance, and presentations.
  • Provide customer service to internal and external customers related to the agency's drinking water program through verbal and written communication, correspondence, reports, meetings, presentations, and responses to Public Information Requests (PIRs).
  • Provide training and mentoring to other staff. Serve as a subject matter expert engineer for assigned programs/topics.
Required Education & Experience
Engineer III

Texas Professional Engineer's license plus two years of full-time engineering experience beyond licensure.

Qualifying work experience that obtained post licensure as an engineering graduate student or teacher.

Career Ladder Progression

One year of full-time experience at TCEQ as an Engineer II.

Employees in this classification series may research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure, including but not limited to a communication infrastructure system, cybersecurity system, electric grid, hazardous waste treatment system, or water treatment facility. See Tex. Business & Commerce Code Section 117.001(2). Accordingly, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure is a requirement to be hired for and to continue to be employed with TCEQ.

WORK SCHEDULE

Standard business hours are M-F, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Individual and work group schedule determined by the TCEQ Austin Office.
