Job Description:
As a Tax Strategist, you will support tax initiatives across the firm, including income tax planning and compliance, estate and trust taxation, and gift tax strategy. The right candidate brings a strong record of academic and professional achievement, excellent interpersonal skills, and a real interest in tax analysis and strategy. The Tax Strategist will research and analyze complex individual, trust, and estate tax matters, find planning opportunities, and deliver clear, actionable recommendations that help clients reach their financial goals. The role involves regular work with clients, financial advisors, relationship managers, and internal team members, so building strong relationships is key. The Tax Strategist will play a central role in building high-quality tax planning services that help the firm's financial advisors serve their high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a key tax resource for Composition Wealth's clients, supporting their income, estate, trust, and gift tax planning.
  • Partner with the Wealth Strategy Group leads and Head of Advisors to shape CW's tax planning strategy and client experience built on planning.
  • Work closely with Financial Advisors to build relationships with high-net-worth clients, COI’s, and prospects nationwide by advising on tax planning issues and opportunities.
  • Explain complex tax rules, analyses, and structures in clear terms so clients understand them.
  • Evaluate and compare tax strategies for clients, such as Roth conversions, tax-loss harvesting, charitable giving, and trust structures, and quantify each option's impact.
  • Present tax planning recommendations to clients and advisors in plain language.
  • Lead and mentor analyst teams that prepare tax projections and analysis on income, estate, and gift tax planning.
  • Coordinate with clients' outside CPAs and estate attorneys so tax strategies are carried out correctly.
  • Review client tax returns and prepare year-end and multi-year tax projections.
  • Track changes in tax law and explain what they mean for clients and the firm's planning approach.

Education/Experience:

  • 8+ years in high-net-worth tax, planning-weighted
  • Active CPA license
  • Experience reviewing and signing individual, pass-through, trust, and gift and estate tax returns
  • Deep, hands-on experience in at least one of the three lanes
  • CFP® preferred (or willingness to obtain Series 65 registration)
  • Comfortable working alongside a client's existing CPA without competing for the relationship
  • Confident taking a position on a hard technical question and defending it
  • Can explain a complex answer to a smart non-expert without talking down to them
  • Strong communicator and ability to build rapport and trust when speaking directly with clients, COI’s and prospects.

Characteristics:

  • Operate with integrity at all times.
  • Passionate about contributing to setting the industry standard for overall client experience tied to tax planning.
  • Commitment to producing high-quality work product.
  • Capacity and passion for being part of a fast-growing team.
  • Pro-activity and creativity in identifying issues, solutions, and opportunities for efficiency.
  • Team-oriented with the ability to build relationships and earn the respect of others.
  • Client-first attitude. Heightened attention to detail; must be meticulous and consistently accurate.
  • Composition Wealth does not provide immigration-related sponsorship (e.g., H-1B, TN,
  • STEM OPT, etc.) for this role.
