Job description

Compensation: Starting at $500,000+, commensurate with experience

A growing, full-service CPA and advisory firm is seeking an accomplished Tax Partner to help lead and expand its Private Client practice.

This is a senior leadership opportunity focused predominantly on ultra-high-net-worth individuals, multigenerational families, family offices, trusts and estates. The successful Partner will advise sophisticated clients whose tax considerations span personal wealth, closely held businesses, investments, trusts, estate structures and, frequently, multiple jurisdictions.

Beyond technical expertise, we're looking for a trusted advisor: someone clients turn to before major transactions, liquidity events, investments, business decisions and generational wealth transfers take place.

The Role

As Tax Partner, you will take a leadership role across complex private client engagements while working closely with other Partners and senior professionals throughout the firm.

Your work will include developing long-term tax strategies, overseeing technically complex engagements, strengthening important client relationships and identifying opportunities to grow the Private Client practice.

areas of responsibility will include:

  • Lead sophisticated tax planning for UHNW individuals, families, family offices, entrepreneurs and business owners.
  • Advise on trust, estate, gift and multigenerational wealth transfer strategies.
  • Develop tax-efficient structures around significant liquidity events, investments, business interests and family wealth.
  • Advise clients on charitable planning and structures, including charitable remainder trusts and other philanthropic strategies.
  • Provide guidance surrounding domestic and cross-border trusts, pre-immigration planning and international family wealth considerations.
  • Advise on advanced planning involving partnerships, corporations, trusts and other investment or holding structures.
  • Work alongside clients' attorneys, wealth advisors, investment professionals and other outside advisors to provide coordinated solutions.
  • Oversee complex federal, state, local and international tax compliance for individuals, trusts, estates and related entities.
  • Review significant technical positions and ensure appropriate risk management across engagements.

Advanced Tax Advisory

While Private Client work will be the primary focus, the Partner will bring sufficient technical depth to advise on complex matters that intersect with clients' businesses and investments.

Depending on the engagement, this may include:

  • Partnership taxation and complex allocation matters.
  • Cross-border ownership and investment structures.
  • GILTI, Subpart F, foreign tax credits, PFICs, FATCA and related international reporting considerations.
  • FIRPTA and withholding matters.
  • Private investment partnerships and alternative investment structures.
  • Private equity, hedge fund and venture capital interests held by private clients.
  • Opportunity Zone and other tax-advantaged investment structures.
  • Transaction and restructuring considerations.
  • Federal and state tax controversy.
  • Voluntary disclosure and offshore compliance matters.
  • Technical research and memoranda involving unusual or particularly complex tax positions.

The expectation is not simply to identify a tax issue, but to understand how it fits within the client's broader family, investment, estate and business objectives.

This is a Partner-level position with meaningful responsibility for the continued growth of the practice.

You will:

  • Serve as the senior relationship Partner for key private clients and family relationships.
  • Manage and develop a substantial portfolio of sophisticated client engagements.
  • Build relationships that extend across generations and multiple family entities.
  • Identify additional opportunities to support existing clients as their circumstances evolve.
  • Originate new relationships through an established professional network and marketplace presence.
  • Develop referral relationships with attorneys, wealth managers, family offices, investment advisors and other centers of influence.
  • Participate in proposals, prospective client meetings and strategic business development.
  • Help define new services and planning opportunities in response to changes in tax legislation and the private wealth marketplace.

Leadership Within the Firm

As a senior member of the tax practice, you will also help shape the technical capabilities and future leadership of the team.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Mentor Tax Managers, Senior Managers and emerging leaders.
  • Provide technical direction on particularly challenging client matters.
  • Improve consistency and quality across complex private client engagements.
  • Develop internal training around UHNW, trust, estate and international tax matters.
  • Collaborate with other service lines to deliver coordinated solutions.
  • Contribute to thought leadership, client education and technical presentations.
  • Participate in broader strategic decisions surrounding the growth of the tax practice.

The successful candidate will be an established tax leader with substantial experience advising sophisticated private clients.

Ideally, you will bring:

  • JD and/or LL.M. in Taxation would be highly regarded.
  • Approximately 15+ years of progressive tax experience, primarily within public accounting, tax advisory or a combination of public accounting and law firm environments.
  • Deep experience advising UHNW individuals, families, family offices, trusts and estates.
  • Advanced knowledge of individual, fiduciary, estate, gift and wealth transfer taxation.
  • Strong understanding of partnership taxation and privately held business structures.
  • Experience with international private client matters and cross-border planning is highly desirable.
  • Proven ability to oversee technically sophisticated engagements and significant client relationships.
  • Experience developing business and expanding a portfolio of private clients.
  • Established relationships within the UHNW ecosystem are advantageous.
  • Strong executive presence with the ability to communicate complex tax matters clearly and practically.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop senior tax professionals.

Base compensation for this Partner opportunity starts at $500,000 annually, with the ultimate package determined by experience, technical expertise, client portfolio, business development track record and overall contribution to the practice.

The broader benefits package includes:

  • Medical, dental and vision insurance.
  • Employer-paid life insurance.
  • Employer-paid long-term disability insurance.
  • Supplemental life and short-term disability options.
  • Safe Harbor 401(k) plan with employer contributions.
  • Professional education and development resources.
  • Access to industry-leading technical learning platforms.
  • Flexible hybrid working environment.

This is an opportunity for an established private client tax professional who wants more than responsibility for compliance. The successful Partner will have the platform to advise sophisticated families, influence the direction of a growing practice, develop future leaders and build a significant UHNW tax business for the long term.
