Job summary

BDO USA is seeking a Tax Managing Director in Illinois to lead complex tax engagements, supervise teams, and advise clients on tax strategy and compliance. You will participate in leadership activities, marketing, and business development while maintaining client relationships and serving as the primary contact for advanced tax questions.

The role requires extensive tax experience, professional certifications, and strong communication skills within a leading advisory firm environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; major in Accounting, Finance, Economics or Statistics preferred
• Masters in Accountancy or Taxation preferred
• Ten (10) or more years of prior relevant tax experience and/or public accounting, private industry accounting or consulting/professional services experience required
• CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (EA) (or the equivalent of one of these designations) required
• Possession of other professional degrees or certifications applicable to role preferred
• Superior verbal and written communication skills
• Executive presence and ability to act as primary client contact for preparation and presentation of issues and resolutions to clients
• Ability to develop and manage a team of tax professionals
• Capable of effectively developing and maintaining client relationships

Responsibilities

• Tax Compliance – ensure clients comply with authorities while minimizing tax and reporting burdens; oversee firm policy compliance
• Research – identify issues and report analysis clearly
• ASC 740 (FAS 109 and FIN 48) Tax Accruals – apply policies and provisions
• Tax Consulting – develop and implement methods to maximize client benefits
• Tax Specialization – develop deep knowledge in one or more tax areas
• Strategy Development – propose new ideas to reduce taxes or expenses
• Other duties as required
• Supervisory Responsibilities – review and manage workload of staff
