Job summary

BDO in Chicago, IL seeks a Tax Managing Director to lead industry-focused tax advisory, oversee complex client engagements, and drive risk assessment and decision-making on tax matters. You will supervise staff, shape tax strategies, and participate in firm leadership, marketing and relationship-building.

The role emphasizes deep technical tax knowledge, leadership, and the ability to manage large engagements with diverse teams across multiple jurisdictions.

Qualifications

• Ten or more years of tax experience required.
• Experience in public accounting or consulting preferred.
• Prior supervisory experience required.
• CPA certification, Attorney (US) or EA required.
• Industry expertise in one or more tax specialty preferred.
• Strong communication and client management skills.

Responsibilities

• Ensure clients comply with all authorities while minimizing tax and reporting burdens; ensure firm policies and TQM compliance.
• Manage engagements to achieve engagement metrics and deliver hands-on client service.
• Identify and frame research needs; provide research methodology for efficient processes; act as technical reviewer where applicable.
• Apply tax provision expertise (FAS 109, FIN 48) and international tax knowledge to optimize outcomes.
• Advise clients on tax implications and alternative courses of action; develop tax strategies.
• Marketing, networking and business development within tax specialization; maintain client relationships.
