Summary:

The Unconventional (TU) is seeking a qualified Tamil Interpreter to support the Department of Justice (DOJ) with Translation, Interpretation, Transcription, and other Linguistic Support Services (LSS). Activities may include the translation of documents and media content, as well as ancillary services such as court and deposition interpretation. The material will contain legal, business, public administrative, medical, scientific, financial, historical, geographical, and military terminology.

All material made available to the Contractor will be considered “sensitive,” requiring strict controls and confidentiality measures.

Job Requirements

Additional specific duties may include, but are not limited to:

1. Provide interpretation services within (3) hours of request of the Government.

Required Qualifications:

1. Specialized training in the interpreting field and/or extensive experience in court or legal environments in the required language, able to provide this service within (3) hours of request.
2. Minimum of four (4) years of experience in language interpretation.
3. Qualifying scores ILR 3 minimum or equivalent on language/translation tests.
4. Must have lived 3 of the last 5 years in the U.S.
5. Must have at least 1 year of experience working with a law enforcement and/or legal department.
6. Must be a U.S. citizen; Naturalized citizen; or Green Card holder with a Social Security Number.
7. Know both English and foreign language vocabularies used in various contexts.
8. Speak in English and foreign language fluently, including regionalisms and colloquial slang.
9. Interpret accurately without changes, omissions, or additions.
10. Preserve the tone and register of source language materials.
11. Abide by relevant code of linguist ethics.

Clearance: Active Public Trust or higher security clearance
