Summary:

The Unconventional (TU) is seeking a qualified Interpreter to support the Department of Justice (DOJ) with Translation, Interpretation, Transcription, and other Linguistic Support Services (LSS). This includes the translation of documents and media content, as well as court and deposition interpretation. Source material will contain legal, business, public administrative, medical, scientific, financial, historical, geographical, and military terminology.

The material to be translated, transcribed, or interpreted is legal in nature and may be provided in various formats, including electronic or hard copies of legal documents, reports, and multimedia files. The substance of the materials may vary widely from highly complex, technical information to informal language.

All materials will be considered “sensitive,” requiring strict controls and confidentiality measures.

Job Requirements

Additional specific duties may include, but are not limited to:

• Provide interpretation services within (3) hours of request of the Government.

Required Qualifications:

• Specialized training in interpreting and/or extensive experience in court or legal environments in the required language.
• Minimum of four (4) years of experience in language interpretation in the mode required by the assignment.
• Qualifying scores ILR 3 minimum or equivalent on language/translation tests.
• Must have lived 3 of the last 5 years in the U.S. (does not have to be consecutive).
• Must have at least 1 year of experience working with a law enforcement and/or legal department.
• Must be a U.S. citizen; Naturalized citizen; or Green Card holder with a Social Security Number.
• Know both English and foreign language vocabularies used in formal, legal, diplomatic, and casual modes of communication.
• Speak in English and foreign language fluently, including regionalisms and colloquial slang without altering meaning.
• Interpret in a manner that is factually and conceptually accurate without changes, omissions, or additions.
• Preserve the tone and register of source language materials.
• Abide by relevant code of linguist ethics.

Clearance: Active Public Trust or higher security clearance
