Job summary

Cooley LLP is seeking an Associate Development Manager to support staffing, utilization and development of associates within the firm. You will work with practice group leaders to allocate new matters and ensure fair workload distribution aligned to clients and individual goals.

Responsibilities include monitoring metrics, supporting performance reviews, and coordinating onboarding and training initiatives in collaboration with PD and Legal Education teams.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of direct experience with staffing and work allocation in a large law firm or professional services organization.
• Senior level candidates must have 7+ years applicable experience in the field with 2+ years of exempt/management experience in relevant roles.
• After orientation at Cooley LLP, exhibit proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, iManage and other firm applications.

Responsibilities

• Support associate staffing, utilization, integration and development with leadership and teams.
• Manage work allocation for associates to ensure equitable distribution aligned to client needs and development goals.
• Track and analyze associate metrics including availability and utilization rates.
• Partner with practice group leaders to identify staffing needs and hiring targets with Legal Talent.
• Assist in associate performance reviews and delivery of review scripts and feedback.
• Collaborate with PD/Legal Education to develop and implement training programs for associates.
• Promote an inclusive culture and facilitate mentoring, coaching and feedback across groups.
