Job summary

Cooley LLP is seeking an Associate Development Manager to support staffing, utilization and development for our Cyber/Data/Privacy Group. You will work with practice leaders, manage staffing allocations, monitor workloads, and coordinate with Talent and Legal Education to enhance associate growth.

The role includes driving performance reviews, coaching, onboarding, and mentoring to promote an inclusive, high-performing culture. Strong communication and leadership are essential.

Qualifications

• After orientation at Cooley LLP, exhibit proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, iManage and other firm applications.
• Ability to travel, as required.
• 5+ years of direct experience with staffing and work allocation in a large law firm or professional services organization, or 5+ years combined law firm professional development and prior law practice experience, preferably in a large law firm environment.
• Senior level candidates must have 7+ years applicable experience in the field with 2+ years of exempt/management experience in relevant roles.

Responsibilities

• Manage work allocation for associates in the group in collaboration with practice group leaders and partners.
• Monitor workloads and associate development, and allocate new matters to balance productivity and development goals.
• Track and analyze associate metrics and ensure staffing supports client needs and firm goals.
• Coordinate with Legal Talent to align hiring with group needs and targets.
• Support performance reviews, deliver timely reviews, and coach associates based on feedback.
• Facilitate mentoring, training and actions for high performers or challenged associates.
• Assist onboarding, integration, and exit interviews to improve the associate experience.
• Develop and implement training programs to support associate development and licensure alignment.
• Collaborate on diversity, inclusion, wellness, and other HR initiatives.
• Other duties as assigned.
