Job summary

Everforth Apex in Norfolk, VA is seeking a MID-level Configuration Management Engineer to ensure stability, consistency, and compliance of our enterprise network. You will manage baselines, drift detection, backups, and automated remediation for routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers.

You will write automation with Ansible, Terraform, and Python; operate NMS platforms such as Cisco Catalyst Center and OpenText NNMi; maintain Git repositories and CI/CD pipelines, and provide Tier-3

Qualifications

• Experience with network automation using Ansible, Terraform and Python.
• Proficient in configuring and managing enterprise network devices (Cisco/Juniper/Arista).
• Strong knowledge of NMS and IPAM concepts and tooling.
• Familiarity with source control and CI/CD workflows.

Responsibilities

Systems Engineer MID - Configuration Management Engineer

Location: Norfolk, Virginia (Onsite)

Role Overview

The Configuration Management Engineer is responsible for ensuring the stability, consistency, and compliance of the enterprise network infrastructure. This role focuses on maintaining the lifecycle of network device configurations across all nodes, including routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers. The engineer will work to eliminate manual errors and baseline drift by leveraging Network Management Systems (NMS) and infrastructure-as-code automation frameworks.

Key Responsibilities

• Establish official baselines for all production network node types and perform drift detection to audit configurations against approved standards.


• Manage configuration backups and rollback procedures to ensure disaster recovery.


• Enforce compliance standards by executing automated remediation on non-compliant infrastructure nodes.


• Administer NMS platforms such as Cisco Catalyst Center, OpenText NNMi, and OpenText Network Automation for inventory discovery and configuration storage.


• Integrate Source-of-Truth systems with the NMS to keep network topology and IPAM data synchronized.


• Write automation playbooks using tools like Ansible, Terraform, and Python to implement global changes.


• Maintain Git repositories for network infrastructure code and build CI/CD pipelines to validate and test network changes before deployment.


• Provide Tier-3 troubleshooting for complex network outages and coordinate mass patching campaigns.

Technical Skills

• Network Automation: Ansible, Terraform, Python, Jinja2.


• NMS & Tools: Cisco Catalyst Center, OpenText Network Automation, Nautobot, Infoblox IPAM, Wireshark.


• DevOps Workflows: Git, GitLab CI/CD, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Docker.


• Core Networking: Understanding of BGP, OSPF, VLANs, VRFs, ACLs, and SSH/SNMP protocols.


• Vendor OS Fluency: Cisco IOS/IOS-XE/XR, Juniper JunOS, Arista EOS.

Soft Skills

• Data-driven analytical thinker skilled at identifying anomalies in configuration files.


• Detail-oriented planner capable of coordinating large-scale automated pushes across global time zones.
