The University of Virginia’s Department of Computer Science seeks a SystemsEngineer II to join our team in Charlottesville. The role involves independent or collaborative work on long-term projects, designs, and maintenance of the computing environment, plus helpdesk support for students, faculty, and staff.
Ideal candidates have a Bachelor's degree with Linux administration experience and familiarity with Windows, MacOS, and Linux.
The University of Virginia Department of Computer Science (CS) is seeking a SystemsEngineerII to join our team. The SystemsEngineer will work independently or collaboratively on long-term projects, designs, and overall maintenance of the existing computing environment and related services. Further, the candidate will provide helpdesk ticketing support through a ticking system to students, faculty, and staff in the CS department.
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree and experience administering an enterprise deployment of Linux, along with familiarity of typical deployments of Windows, MacOS, and Linux. Further, the ideal candidate will have experience with software compilation, patching and security management (Windows, Linux, MacOS), and configuring and maintaining Linux automation using scripting (Bash, Lua, etc.), Ansible or Puppet, or cron jobs.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, ComputerEngineering or a related discipline, and at least 2 years of relevant experience.
Associate's degree and 3 years of relevant experience.
High school diploma and 4 years of relevant experience.
The selected applicant will be required to be on-site in Charlottesville, VA as needed.
Anticipated Hiring Range: $70,000 - $84,000.
This position will remain open until filled. This is a non-exempt level, benefited position. The University will perform background checks on all hires (if required) prior to employment. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States. For this role, the University will not sponsor or consider candidates requiring sponsorship for employment visas now or in the future.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Bachelor's degree required; may consider combination of relevant experience, education, certification(s) in lieu of degree.
Experience: 2+ years relevant professional experience required.
Licensure: None.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of computers. Occasionally requires traveling some distance to attend training programs. Must be capable of lifting 25 - 50 lbs.
