Job summary

Alaska Communications is seeking a Systems Engineer to design, implement, and maintain telecom infrastructure including legacy TDM and modern VoIP networks. You will support SS7 signaling, E911 services, and ensure secure, high‑performing systems for 24x7 operations.

The role involves hands-on provisioning and multi‑project management, with a strong emphasis on reliability and compliance with public safety regulations.

Qualifications

• College diploma in computer science, computer information systems, or computer engineering.
• Relevant experience could be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
• Up to 3 years of experience leading to the ability to work independently in the role.

Responsibilities

• Install new hardware, systems, and software for network and system infrastructure.
• Install, configure, and maintain network services, equipment, and devices for core and/or customer solutions.
• Perform troubleshooting analysis of network and system infrastructure and associated systems.
• Document network problems and their resolutions for future reference.
• Support administration of servers and server clusters. Manage all system backups and restoration protocols.
• Plan and support network and computing infrastructure.
• Monitor system performance and implement performance tuning.
• Manage user accounts, permissions, email, anti-virus, anti-spam.
• Oversee software and network security.
• Provide training instruction on platforms, equipment, and related applications.
• Maintain network and call routing translations in TDM switches such as DMS-100, DMS-10, Redcom, and Mitel.
• Maintain and support VoIP platforms, primarily MetaSwitch, to ensure reliable voice services.
• Manage SS7 signaling systems for call routing, number portability, and CLASS feature delivery.
• Implement and maintain E911 systems to ensure compliance with public safety.
