Job summary

Maricopa County is seeking a Senior Systems Administrator to perform tier 2/3 application support for Windows Server environments, AD, and related infrastructure.

The role involves on-call rotations, patching windows, data center hardware, backup/recovery, and collaboration with Network Engineers and vendors to maintain enterprise services.

Qualifications

• Five years of experience administering, configuring, managing, installing, and troubleshooting VMware, PowerShell, AWS, Azure, Windows Server 2016/2019/2022, IIS Web Applications, Active Directory, and SAN systems.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• Ten years’ experience in administering Windows Server, IIS Web Applications, Active Directory, and SAN systems is valued.

Responsibilities

• Install, configure, monitor, troubleshoot, and maintain server-class software and hardware including file servers and load balanced applications.
• Manage Active Directory accounts, security groups, GPOs, shared directories, and user permissions.
• Provide on-call support, apply patches during monthly weekend windows, and participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation as required.
• Maintain backups, test restores, and coordinate with vendors and network engineers to ensure recovery and connectivity.

Job Type: Unclassified.

Pay Range $82,000 - $132,500 annually. Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.

About the Position

The Systems Administrator Senior performs application support at tier two and three levels both independently and with assistance from other information technology professionals of systems including web servers, file/print services, and Active Directory in addition to the storage utilized by these systems.

• Work with and maintain Active Directory accounts, security groups, group policies, server based shared directories and user permissions.
• Provide on-call support based on a rotation and apply necessary patches during the established patch window that occurs once a month on a weekend.
• Installs, configures, monitors, troubleshoots and maintains server class software and hardware including file servers and load balanced applications.
• With limited supervision, installs, configures and supports various line-of-business applications.
• Interfaces with appropriate individuals to coordinate installations and maintenance of client server applications.
• Maintains backup system and ensures backups are successfully completed, periodically tested, and are in compliance with best practices.
• As needed, restore files, directories, objects, complete servers, etc. from backups.
• Works with outside contracted vendors for additional hardware and software support.
• Works with Network Engineers to ensure server room resources connect to Enterprise network.
• Makes critical decisions involving the use of limited resources in an effort to repair and restore services during system interruptions and outages.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues and participate in a 24 x 7 on-call rotation as required.

• Installs, operates, maintains and administers Windows Server /2016/2019/2022 operating systems and associated roles and features
• Installs, operates, maintains and administers data center hardware including Dell PowerEdge Servers, Dell PowerStore, EMC NetWorker, and Coheisty backup systems
• Administers AWS and Azure hosted data center environments including backup and DR services
• Administers Microsoft IIS, including managing IIS Web applications and associated components
• Configures IIS Web Server security, including Authentication, Secure Sockets Layer (SSL), and URL Authentication Rules
• Performs expedited root cause analysis and escalating the issue to the appropriate teams when necessary
• Administers VMware virtual data center environment including backup and DR services
• Collaborates with vendors and internal technical teams to resolve issues
• Monitors network resources, usage, and performance.
• Monitor assigned systems and applications to maintain performance
• Takes proactive steps to improve performance when necessary
• Escalates issues to management
• Creates and documents policies and procedures, installation instructions, configuration guides, and other relevant documentation as needed to help maintain a knowledge base for the team
• Participates in technical on-call services and off hours work when required.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

• We Require Five years of experience administering, configuring, managing, installing, and troubleshooting VMware, PowerShell, AWS, Azure, Windows Server 2016/2019/2022 operating systems, IIS Web Applications, Active Directory, and SAN (Storage Area Network) systems
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, closely related field, or a technology related discipline
• A combination of post-secondary education and/or job-related experience may substitute for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.
• We Also Value Ten years’ experience in administering, configuring, managing, installing, and troubleshooting Windows Server 2016/2019/2022 operating systems, IIS Web Applications, Active Directory, and SAN (Storage Area Network) systems
• Certifications in: Microsoft Server Operating Systems, VMware, AWS, Azure
• Experience working with VMware, PowerShell, AWS, and Azure
• Experience with managing firewalls and troubleshooting network switches
