Job summary

University of Georgia in Athens is seeking a Systems Administrator II to join the FMD-Admin-IT team. The role focuses on maintaining physical and virtual servers, VDI environments, networking, and security while supporting end users.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent with 2 years of professional IT experience.
  • Experience administering Microsoft Active Directory, Windows Servers, and Windows Clients.
  • Experience with VMware vSphere and Horizon administration and image creation.
  • Proficient with PowerShell scripting.
  • Knowledge of computer networking and troubleshooting from physical to application layer.
  • Experience with application layer firewalls.

Responsibilities

  • Design, maintain, upgrade, and troubleshoot physical/virtual servers, VDI environments, networks, and firewalls.
  • Maintain hardware and software for FMD end users, HVAC systems, and other systems as needed.
  • Manage Active Directory objects and group policies; PowerShell scripting for automation and reports.
  • Coordinate projects with other departments, external contractors, and vendors.
  • Create and maintain documentation related to systems, applications, and processes.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent and 2 years of professional experience

Position Summary

This position is responsible for systems administration and providing general IT client support. Personnel in this position setup, maintain, upgrade, and troubleshoot physical and virtual servers, virtual desktop infrastructure, networking, and additional IT managed systems. This employee also works with the helpdesk to assist with client related issues and develops and maintains written documentation to support the administration and maintenance of production quality services. Technical, analytical, and interpersonal skills are essential for success. The work of an IT Systems Administrator will vary according to the nature of the employing organization and the level of responsibility associated with the position. The person in this position may be an IT generalist or an employee with multiple technical specialties including, but not limited to, systems administration, web development, network administration.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
  • Experience administering Microsoft Active Directory, Windows Servers, and Windows Clients.
  • Experience with VMware vSphere and Horizon administration, as well as gold image creating and optimization.
  • Proficient with PowerShell, or a similar scripting language.
  • Knowledge of computer networking, and able to troubleshoot network related issues from the physical to application layer.
  • Experience with application layer firewalls.
Physical Demands
  • Sit and/or stand at a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Stand up and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Regularly drive around campus to perform job related duties.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs. during an average work shift.
  • Stand, stoop, squat, bend, crawl, and walk up and down steps and ladders.
Duties/Responsibilities

Systems administration including designing, maintaining, upgrading, and troubleshooting physical and virtual servers, VDI environments, network infrastructure, and firewalls.

Percentage of time 40

Maintaining, upgrading, and supporting hardware and software for FMD end users, HVAC systems, and other systems as needed.

Percentage of time 20

Planning, creation, management, and maintenance of Active Directory objects and group policies. PowerShell scripting for automation, management, and reports.

Percentage of time 15

Project management coordinating with other departments, external contractors, and vendors.

Creating and maintaining documentation related to systems, applications, and processes.
