Job summary

United Launch Alliance in Denver is seeking a System Safety professional to review launch vehicle specifications, conduct independent safety assessments, and prepare safety documentation for multiple customers. The role includes audits, accident investigations, and evaluating safety requirements across design and development to optimize cost and risk.

Minimum 2 years of related experience with a Bachelor's in Engineering; DoD clearance eligibility may be required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline from an accredited college or university.
  • 2+ years of related work experience (Master's degree substitutes for 2 years of experience).
  • Demonstrated ability to lead projects to successful completion.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and maintain schedule adherence for assigned work scope.
  • Demonstrated teamwork/interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated group presentation skills.
  • Limited domestic travel may be required (up to 25%).
  • Must be able to obtain a DoD Security Clearance, if future business needs require.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews launch vehicle and space vehicle system specifications and designs, their associated support equipment and facilities, and functional specifications and operations, to establish safety requirements and safety assessments for assigned systems.
  • Performs independent assessments and provides recommendations to system design and operational procedures to control or eliminate hazards.
  • Prepares safety documents as required to support ULA, Air Force, Range Safety, FAA, NASA, NRO, and Commercial customers.
  • Performs audits of operational areas and reports effectiveness of system safety program.
  • Participates in accident investigations involving damage to products or related facilities and assists in identification of causes and preventive/corrective actions.
  • Evaluates the interrelationship of system safety requirements and other aspects of concept design and development requirements to ensure the most cost effective program.
