Summary:

The Switchboard Operator facilitates all telecommunications within the hospital. Receives and directs incoming calls to the appropriate party in a timely manner.

Responsibilities

• Routes all incoming calls to specified areas in a professional manner.
• Provides appropriate information to callers.
• Performs overhead paging.
• Provides paging services.
• Assigns pagers upon request.
• Initiates the response for all code situations.
• Monitors and operates multiple alarm systems.
• Assists with the edits to the on-call physician schedule.
• Maintains a high degree of confidentiality at all times.

Education

High School Diploma or equivalent required, any higher education from an accredited college will supersede this requirement.

Licensure/Certification

None.

Experience

At least one year of experience in a hospital environment preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Clear speaking voice.
• Ability to speak, read, write and communicate effectively in English.
• Proficient with MS Office and able to learn new software rapidly.

Valid NC Driver’s License

No

If driving a Wayne UNC Vehicle, must be 21 years old and MVR must be approved by Risk Management.
