Job summary

Katz JCC is seeking Swim Instructors to plan and teach water safety and proper swimming techniques to participants of all ages in Margate, NJ.

Responsibilities include adapting teaching methods to participants, ensuring safety, and communicating progress to families. The role requires lifeguard/CPR/First Aid certification (preferred) and a strong foundation in stroke mechanics.

Qualifications

• Experience with competitive swimming and/or teaching swim lessons.
• Certification in Lifeguarding/CPR/AED/First Aid preferred.
• Knowledge of stroke mechanics and swimming skills.
• Ability to teach swimming to a wide range of ages and skill levels.
• Ability to lift, bend, and stand for extended periods; reliable and detail‑oriented.
• Effective communication with children and adults of all ages.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver water safety and swim lessons to participants of all ages.
• Familiarize students with Red Cross Learn-to-Swim levels and materials.
• Adapt instruction to age, experience, and ability; ensure course objectives are met.
• Maintain health and safety standards in teaching spaces and equipment.
• Communicate progress to participants and parents as appropriate.
• Respond to emergencies per facility protocols and enforce aquatics rules.
• Complete records, reports, and participate in staff trainings.
• Provide age-appropriate guidance and deliver group and private lessons.
• Arrive prepared for sessions and work collaboratively with staff to foster a positive environment.

Job description

The JCC is seeking Swim Instructors to plan and teach water safety and proper swimming techniques to a diverse range of participants in all age groups.

Responsibilities:

• Be familiar with American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim levels, other Red Cross water safety courses and know how to use course materials effectively
• Adapt your teaching approaches to the age, experience and ability of participants, so they can meet course objectives
• Provide for the health and safety of participants, including ensuring that all teaching and practice areas are free of hazards, and that materials and equipment are safe
• Communicate regularly with participants and their parents, as appropriate, to ensure they are aware of progress
• Recognize and respond effectively in emergencies in accordance with facility emergency action plans
• Enforce all aquatic facility policies, rules and regulations
• Complete records and reports
• Participate in regular in-service training sessions
• Complete additional duties as assigned by supervisor
• Prepare and deliver technical guidance, age-appropriate and skill-focused group and private swim lessons based upon participant abilities.
• Arrive in a timely manner, prepared to all sessions.
• Work collaboratively with participants and aquatics staff to ensure a positive and friendly environment with encouragement, goal-setting, and positive reinforcement.
• Provide excellent customer service and interact with parents when appropriate. Receive and respond to questions, concerns, and complaints from patrons; determine issues and resolve or refer to higher-level staff as appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Must be able to take initiative to solve problems and willing to seek assistance in solving problems.
• Must be able to communicate effectively with children and adults of all ages.
• Ability to lift, bend, and stand for extended periods.
• Strong attention to detail and reliability.
