Job summary

The Katz JCC of Atlantic County in Margate City, NJ is seeking part-time Swim Instructors to teach water safety and fundamental swimming techniques to participants of all ages, using Red Cross curricula where applicable.

You will plan and adapt lessons, maintain safe learning environments, track progress, communicate with families, and collaborate with aquatics staff. Availability afternoons, evenings and weekends is preferred in this welcoming nonprofit community center.

Qualifications

• Experience with competitive swimming or teaching swim lessons.
• Certification in Lifeguarding/CPR/AED/First Aid preferred.
• Knowledge of stroke mechanics and swimming skills.
• Ability to teach swimming to a wide variety of age groups and skill levels.
• Ability to lift, bend, and stand for extended periods.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver water-safety and swimming lessons for all ages.
• Adapt teaching to participants’ ages, experience and abilities.
• Maintain a safe learning environment and ensure equipment safety.
• Track progress and communicate with participants and parents.
• Respond to emergencies per facility plans and enforce policies.
• Complete records, reports and participate in training sessions.
• Collaborate with aquatics staff to create a positive learning atmosphere.
• Deliver age-appropriate group and private lessons; arrive prepared.
• Provide customer service and address questions or concerns.

Principal Responsibilities:

The JCC is seeking part-time Swim Instructors to plan and teach water safety and proper swimming techniques to a diverse range of participants in all age groups.

Responsibilities:

• Be familiar with American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim levels, other Red Cross water safety courses and know how to use course materials effectively
• Adapt your teaching approaches to the age, experience and ability of participants, so they can meet course objectives
• Provide for the health and safety of participants, including ensuring that all teaching and practice areas are free of hazards, and that materials and equipment are safe
• Communicate regularly with participants and their parents, as appropriate, to ensure they are aware of progress
• Recognize and respond effectively in emergencies in accordance with facility emergency action plans
• Enforce all aquatic facility policies, rules and regulations
• Complete records and reports
• Participate in regular in-service training sessions
• Complete additional duties as assigned by supervisor
• Prepare and deliver technical guidance, age-appropriate and skill-focused group and private swim lessons based upon participant abilities.
• Arrive in a timely manner, prepared to all sessions.
• Work collaboratively with participants and aquatics staff to ensure a positive and friendly environment with encouragement, goal-setting, and positive reinforcement.
• Provide excellent customer service and interact with parents when appropriate. Receive and respond to questions, concerns, and complaints from patrons; determine issues and resolve or refer to higher-level staff as appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Experience with competitive swimming and/or teaching swim lessons.
• Certification in Lifeguarding/CPR/AED/First Aid through the American Red Cross preferred.

• Must be able to take initiative to solve problems and willing to seek assistance in solving problems.
• Must be able to communicate effectively with children and adults of all ages.
• Ability to lift, bend, and stand for extended periods.
• Strong attention to detail and reliability.
• Available to work afternoons, nights & weekends/flexible schedule

Salary:

$25,000 - $35,000
