Job summary

Katz JCC in Margate City, NJ is seeking Swim Instructors to plan and teach water safety and proper swimming techniques to participants of all ages.

Responsibilities include using Red Cross Learn-to-Swim materials, adapting teaching to age and ability, ensuring safety, communicating progress to families, and delivering engaging lessons with punctuality and professionalism.

Qualifications

• Experience with competitive swimming and/or teaching swim lessons.
• Red Cross Lifeguard/CPR/AED/First Aid certification preferred.
• Knowledge of stroke mechanics and swimming skills.
• Ability to teach swimming to a wide variety of age groups and skill levels.
• Must be able to take initiative to solve problems and communicate effectively with children and adults of all ages.
• Ability to lift, bend, and stand for extended periods.
• Strong attention to detail and reliability.

Job description

The JCC is seeking Swim Instructors to plan and teach water safety and proper swimming techniques to a diverse range of participants in all age groups.

Responsibilities:

• Be familiar with American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim levels, other Red Cross water safety courses and know how to use course materials effectively
• Adapt your teaching approaches to the age, experience and ability of participants, so they can meet course objectives
• Provide for the health and safety of participants, including ensuring that all teaching and practice areas are free of hazards, and that materials and equipment are safe
• Communicate regularly with participants and their parents, as appropriate, to ensure they are aware of progress
• Recognize and respond effectively in emergencies in accordance with facility emergency action plans
• Enforce all aquatic facility policies, rules and regulations
• Complete records and reports
• Participate in regular in-service training sessions
• Complete additional duties as assigned by supervisor
• Prepare and deliver technical guidance, age-appropriate and skill-focused group and private swim lessons based upon participant abilities.
• Arrive in a timely manner, prepared to all sessions.
• Work collaboratively with participants and aquatics staff to ensure a positive and friendly environment with encouragement, goal-setting, and positive reinforcement.
• Provide excellent customer service and interact with parents when appropriate. Receive and respond to questions, concerns, and complaints from patrons; determine issues and resolve or refer to higher-level staff as appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Certification in Lifeguarding/CPR/AED/First Aid through the American Red Cross preferred.
