Job summary

YMCA of Catawba Valley in Hickory, NC, is seeking a Swim Instructor to teach lessons per YMCA standards. The role emphasizes safety, enthusiasm, and creating a positive learning environment for all swimmers.

You will maintain records, use lesson plans, and participate in training and staff meetings. Qualifications include being at least 15 and holding current CPR/First Aid/AED/Oxygen certifications with annual renewals.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 15 years old.
• Must complete and maintain YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor certification (24 hours) before teaching solo or within 90 days if already a Red Cross Swim Instructor.
• Maintain current CPR, First Aid, AED, and Oxygen Administration certifications (renew annually).
• Complete Bloodborne Pathogens and Child Abuse Prevention trainings annually.
• Complete YMCA of Greater Charlotte New Staff Connection before employment.
• Complete I Create Loyalty Training within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Teach swim lessons according to YMCA of the USA standards.
• Create a positive learning environment with enthusiasm.
• Ensure swimmer safety by enforcing rules and maintaining order.
• Keep accurate attendance and skill records for each student and session.
• Provide students with written progress records.
• Use swim aids to maximize practice time.
• Follow written lesson plans for efficient class time.
• Attend staff meetings and in-service training.
• Conduct program evaluations and other duties as assigned.
