Job summary

City of Ann Arbor is seeking a dedicated swim instructor to teach children and adults according to city standards. The role involves supervising structured class activities, serving as a lead instructor for a pool, and supporting instructional swim programs across multiple pools, including registrations and assessments.

You will train and supervise other instructors, help evaluate programs, and ensure safety and skill progress for all participants.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of instructional methods for teaching swimming and water safety to groups and individuals.
• At least two years of swim instruction experience and one year of swim program administration.
• Must obtain CPR/AED and First Aid certification within 30 days of employment.
• Must possess current American Red Cross Lifeguard certification by start of employment.
• Current Water Safety Instructor certification.

Responsibilities

• Organize and implement instructional swim programs; manage program registrations and student skill assessments.

Job description

Starting Hourly Rate: $19.15

Instructs swimming and water safety skills for children and adults according to City of Ann Arbor standards. Responsible for the supervision of structured class activities for a small group of students or for individual private lessons. Will routinely act as a lead instructor for a particular pool and may assist with the organization and implementation of instructional swim programs at multiple pools, including program registration procedures, student skill assessment, training and supervision of other swim instructors, and program evaluation.

• Employees will have an opportunity for Lifeguard certification reimbursement up to $200 upon working a minimum of 200 hours.

Required Qualifications

• If hired, candidate is required to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 no later than their start date or have a City of Ann Arbor approved medical / religious exemption
• Knowledge of instructional methods for teaching swimming and water safety skills to groups and individuals
• At least two years of swim instruction experience and one year of swim program administration required
• Must obtain CPR/AED and First Aid certification within 30 days of employment. The City offers CPR/AED and First Aid classes, which are free to Parks employees. Please note, your certification must be from an organization that has been approved by the Bureau of Community and Health Systems, Child Care Licensing Division. Preferred Qualifications

Experience in the administration and organization of instructional swim programs.

Physical Requirements

May exert up to 20 lbs of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 lbs of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
