In a year, we provide high-quality literacy and STEAM-infused learning for over 3,000 children from 6 weeks through Pre-K; give 58,000 youth and teens access to sports, aquatics, camps, leadership programs, and employment; serve over 200,000 members with programs and facilities; and engage 25,000 volunteers and donors across Atlanta.

Nature And Scope

This position supports the work of the Y, a nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Swim Instructor maintains a positive, welcoming atmosphere, providing leadership, instruction, and motivation in swim classes.

Minimum Requirements

• At least 16 years old
• Demonstrated swim instructor skills per YMCA standards
• YMCA Swim Instructor certification or equivalent
• CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen certifications
• Complete Y's Cause and Culture, Living our Cause, & I Hear You courses within 30 days

Responsibilities

• Instruct swimming lessons following YMCA guidelines, with prepared lesson plans, supporting participants in achieving their goals
• Develop positive relationships with volunteers, members, and colleagues; encourage family involvement
• Communicate program schedules and refer participants to other programs as needed
• Maintain records (attendance, progress reports)
• Follow all safety policies, complete incident reports when necessary
• Organize and maintain class equipment; report damages
• Train and supervise class aides as assigned
• Perform other YMCA duties as assigned
