Nature And Scope

This position supports the work of the YMCA, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Swim Instructor maintains a positive, welcoming atmosphere and provides leadership, instruction, and motivation in swim classes.

Minimum Requirements

• At least 16 years old.
• Demonstrate swim instructor skills per YMCA standards.
• YMCA Swim Instructor certification or equivalent.
• CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen certifications.
• Complete Y’s Cause and Culture, Living our Cause, & I Hear You e-learning within 30 days.

Responsibilities

• Instruct swimming lessons per YMCA guidelines, supporting participants in achieving their goals.
• Develop positive relationships with volunteers, members, and colleagues; encourage family involvement.
• Provide information on aquatics programs and refer participants to other programs as appropriate.
• Maintain records such as attendance and progress reports.
• Follow all safety policies, complete incident reports as needed.
• Organize and maintain class equipment, report damages.
• Train and supervise class aides as assigned.
• Perform other YMCA duties as assigned.

Work Environment & Physical Demands
