The Swim Instructor at the YMCA maintains a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals and provides safe, effective instruction for all levels of swim lessons. Available hours are from 9am to 11:30am. Employees enjoy free access to facilities at all branches, including outdoor pools, gyms, and wellness centers. Program discounts include free use of Child Watch (up to 3 hours per day), camp or school-aged childcare for your children while working (when available), and discounts on programs and lessons. Full-time and regular part-time employees accrue PTO after their first month and receive free family membership.

Essential Functions

• Instruct swimming lessons as assigned, following YMCA guidelines and provided lesson plans.
• Develop and maintain positive relationships with participants and parents/caregivers.
• Relay information about participants' progress and other programs to parents/caregivers appropriately.
• Maintain records such as attendance, parent handbooks, and certificates.
• Follow all YMCA policies, including emergency and safety procedures, and complete incident reports as necessary.
• Attend staff meetings and in-service trainings as requested.

Qualifications

Depending on the level:

• Swim Instructor I & II: Must have or obtain CPR/AED and First Aid certification, Mandated Reporter Clearance, High School Diploma, and 3 years of swim lesson experience.
• Swim Instructor III: Same certifications, plus 5 years of swim lesson experience and 3 years of supervising staff.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

Must be able to instruct and observe proper stroke techniques, lift equipment, and lift small to average-sized children. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.
