Position Summary

The Swim Instructor maintains a positive, welcoming environment, providing leadership, instruction, and motivation in swim classes. This role supports our mission to ensure all individuals have the opportunity to reach their full potential.

Minimum Requirements

• At least 16 years of age.
• Demonstrated swim instructor skills per YMCA standards.
• YMCA Swim Instructor certification or equivalent.
• CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen certifications.
• Completion of introductory e-learning courses within first 30 days.

Responsibilities

• Instruct swimming lessons following YMCA guidelines and lesson plans.
• Build positive relationships with participants, families, volunteers, and staff.
• Provide information about aquatics programs and refer participants to other offerings.
• Maintain records such as attendance and progress reports.
• Follow all safety and emergency procedures, completing incident reports as necessary.
• Organize and maintain class equipment, reporting damages.
• Train and supervise class aides as assigned.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

Must be able to instruct and observe proper stroke techniques, lift equipment, and assist children as needed. Reasonable accommodations may be provided.
