Salary: $12.00 – $12.00 hourly

Essential Responsibilities

• Uphold the mission of the YMCA and demonstrate nurturing, hopeful, and welcoming behavior.
• Remain alert, hear noises and distinguish distress signals.
• Teach swimming techniques and pool safety with patience and a caring attitude.
• Communicate verbally, projecting voice across distance.
• Remain in water for long periods and maintain a safe pool atmosphere.
• Be responsible for scheduled classes, follow substitute procedures, arrive 15 minutes early, and set up, greet participants.
• Clean up all equipment and pool deck after classes.
• Attend all staff meetings and trainings as required by the Aquatics Director.

Qualifications

• Minimum age of 15 years.
• Team player committed to YMCA mission and character development values.
• People‑centered, service‑oriented.
• YMCA Youth Swim Lesson Instructor preferred; training provided.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Previous lifeguard experience preferred; training provided.
• Must be able to swim and demonstrate strokes.
• Obtain CPR/AED and First Aid certifications within 90 days of employment.

Physical Demands

• Remain alert and in the pool for extended periods.
• Work in wet/humid environment with chlorine.
• Continuously scan all areas of the pool with clear vision.
• Perform strenuous physical tasks for water rescue.
• Communicate verbally, projecting voice across distance.
• Lift up to 25 pounds.
• Expected noise level: high.
