Job summary

YMCA Detroit's Farmington Family YMCA is seeking a Swim Instructor to lead swimming classes, prepare engaging lesson plans, and promote water safety. You will connect with parents and students, assess progress, and help families navigate aquatics programs and schedules.

Qualifications include current CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid, Emergency Oxygen, and YMCA Swim Instructor certification or training provided.

Qualifications

• High school education or equivalent is required.
• CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid certification, and Emergency Oxygen are required.
• Current YMCA Swim Instructor certification OR training provided.

Responsibilities

• Instructs swimming lessons and prepares lesson plans according to the YMCA.
• Builds relationships with parents and students to communicate progress and accomplishments.
• Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules and refers participants to other programs.
• Maintains records and attends meetings and trainings as scheduled.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

General Function

TheSwim Instructor provides direct leadership, instruction, and motivation for students in swimming classes.

Education/Experience/Training/Certifications

• Ata minimum, some high school level education (over 16+ years of age)
• CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid certification, and Emergency Oxygen
• Current YMCA Swim Instructor certification OR training provided.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

• Instructs swimming lessons and prepares lesson plans according to the YMCA.
• Builds effective, authentic relationships with parents and students to connect and inform parents of each other and students’ accomplishments.
• Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules and refers students and parents to other programs.
• Maintains records and attends meetings and trainings as scheduled.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Abilities & Skills

• Ability to instruct and observe participants in proper stroke techniques.
• Ability to lift equipment and to lift a small to average-sized child.
