Job summary

The YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit is hiring a Swim Instructor at the Macomb Family YMCA in Mount Clemens, MI. You will lead swimming lessons, plan classes, and help students build confidence in the water.

Qualifications include CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, First Aid, Emergency Oxygen, and YMCA Swim Instructor certification (or training provided). High school education required; ability to lift equipment and children; strong communication with families.

Qualifications

• High school level education (over 16+ years of age)
• CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid certification, and Emergency Oxygen
• Current YMCA Swim Instructor certification OR training provided.

Responsibilities

• Instructs swimming lessons and prepares lesson plans according to the YMCA.
• Builds effective relationships with parents and students to communicate progress.
• Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules and refers students and parents to other programs.
• Maintains records and attends meetings and trainings as scheduled.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

General Function

The Swim Instructor provides direct leadership, instruction, and motivation for students in swimming classes.

Education/Experience/Training/Certifications

• At a minimum, some high school level education (over 16+ years of age)
• CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid certification, and Emergency Oxygen
• Current YMCA Swim Instructor certification OR training provided.

• Instructs swimming lessons and prepares lesson plans according to the YMCA.
• Builds effective, authentic relationships with parents and students to connect and inform parents of each other and students’ accomplishments.
• Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules and refers students and parents to other programs.
• Maintains records and attends meetings and trainings as scheduled.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Abilities & Skills

• Ability to instruct and observe participants in proper stroke techniques.
• Ability to lift equipment and to lift a small to average‑sized child.
