ASR Group is the world’s largest refiner and marketer of cane sugar, with an annual production capacity of more than 6 million tons of sugar. The company produces a full line of grocery, industrial, food service, and specialty sweetener products. Across North America, ASR Group owns and operates six sugar refineries in Louisiana, New York, California, Maryland, Canada, and Mexico. OVERVIEW
ASR Group aims to be the most sustainable sugar refining business globally. The company supports sustainable development activities and ensures progress through ESG and sustainability initiatives. The Sustainability Engineer reports directly to the site Facility Manager and collaborates with senior leadership in ESG, CSR, and operational sustainability. The role involves supporting the development and execution of the ESG/Sustainability framework, fostering a culture of sustainability, and engaging with stakeholders, including community groups, contractors, and consultants.
DETAILED ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
• Act as a change agent for all ESG efforts at the site.
• Support the development and implementation of the site’s Sustainability/ESG framework and plans.
• Analyze data to identify opportunities for improvement and ensure valid communication pathways.
• Lead continuous improvement projects to reduce resource use and environmental impact, including:
-- Achieving a 5% reduction in CO2 emissions every 2 years.
-- Meeting or exceeding a 50% GHG reduction target by 2030.
-- Developing medium and long-term solutions for GHG neutrality by 2040.
-- Reducing potable water usage.
• Collaborate with internal and external experts for complex reduction projects.
• Seek and leverage green funding opportunities.
• Support CSR certifications and third-party audits, tracking corrective actions.
• Develop and implement a Voluntary Carbon Market Certification program.
• Ensure sustainability training and competency development.
• Coordinate signage, data tracking, reporting, and stakeholder communication.
• Support community engagement and donations tracking.
• Perform other related duties as needed.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
• BS in Environmental and Social Sustainability, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years supporting sustainable development, especially in operational or strategic CSR roles within manufacturing.
• Experience with sustainability reporting standards (GRI, ISO, IPCC, GHG Protocol) and third-party validation.
• Familiarity with web-based reporting platforms (CDP, EcoVadis, etc.).
• Experience with management systems, risk analysis, and project facilitation on resource conservation.
