Survivor Support Coordinator

Position Summary

The Center for Survivors is a Confidential Program at Michigan State University. The Survivor Support Coordinator will provide timely, non-judgmental, compassionate care to interpersonal violence survivors. The role involves direct service to a diverse student population, assisting with paperwork, intake assessments, and supporting clients via phone during business hours. The coordinator maintains confidentiality and adheres to legal and ethical standards.

Job Responsibilities

1. Review referral packets and assessment information.
2. Support the Therapy Team Supervisor and Intake Therapist in client follow-ups.
3. Provide information on reporting, healthcare, and advocacy services.
4. Answer calls, support survivors, and transfer calls as needed.
5. Assist with Michigan Crime Victims Compensation applications.
6. Conduct crisis appointments and initial client contacts.
7. Provide court, law enforcement, institutional, personal, and academic advocacy using empathy and empowerment.
8. Coordinate referrals to campus and community services.
9. Follow up on referrals to ensure quality care.
10. Facilitate training for volunteers and supervise Safe Place shelter volunteers.
11. Complete program documentation and create client records.
12. Generate VOCA reports quarterly.
13. Maintain relationships with campus and community partners.
14. Ensure client confidentiality.
15. Update website and social media as needed.
16. Provide backup support for Safe Place on-call schedule.
17. Assist with administrative tasks and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or a related human services field, with up to six months of related experience, or equivalent education and experience.
