Job summary

Mead & Hunt, Inc. is seeking a Surveyor Technician Party Crew Chief to join our transportation team in Charleston, WV. The position emphasizes outdoor field work, operating robotic total stations and GPS, and supporting staking, topographic, and boundary surveys.

Ideal candidates hold an associate degree in Land Surveying or civil engineering with relevant field experience and possess a valid driver’s license. Travel to project sites is required; safety and teamwork are essential to succeed.

Qualifications

• Associate degree and 4 years experience OR 6 years field experience.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites.

Responsibilities

• Assist with field and office surveying tasks.
• Operate and support the use of surveying equipment including robotic total stations, GPS units, and data collectors.
• Support construction staking, topographic, and boundary surveys.
• Download, organize, and manage field data, notes, and drawings.
• Maintain survey vehicles, equipment, and tools to ensure readiness and safety.
• Follow established safety procedures and work effectively in outdoor environments.
• Communicate clearly with team members, clients, and field representatives.
• Perform other duties as assigned in support of project teams.

We’re looking for a Surveyor Technician Party Crew Chief to join our growing transportation team - someone who enjoys working outdoors, collaborating with great people, and seeing the direct results of their work in the field. This position is based out of our Charleston, WV, with travel to project sites throughout the region.

What You’ll Do

• Assist with field and office surveying tasks
• Operate and support the use of surveying equipment including robotic total stations, GPS units, and data collectors
• Support construction staking, topographic, and boundary surveys
• Download, organize, and manage field data, notes, and drawings
• Maintain survey vehicles, equipment, and tools to ensure readiness and safety
• Follow established safety procedures and work effectively in outdoor environments
• Communicate clearly with team members, clients, and field representatives
• Perform other duties as assigned in support of project teams

Required

• Associate degree in Land Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a related field and 4 years of experience OR 6 years of related field experience
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites
• Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and terrain

Preferred

• Knowledge of surveying tools, equipment, and field procedures
• Familiarity with fundamental math and surveying calculations
• Exposure to AutoCAD, MicroStation, or survey data processing software (a plus, not required)
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Attention to detail and willingness to learn
• Ability to follow direction and safety protocols
• Dependable, organized, and proactive in the field
