Position Overview

HDR is seeking a mid-level surveyor to join our Kansas City, MO office. The role involves working outdoors on boundary, topography, ALTA, right of way, design, and construction surveys for various clients. The candidate must be willing to travel, responsible, motivated, and detail-oriented. The surveyor will assist the party chief in conducting land surveys, maintaining equipment, and preparing reports.

Responsibilities

1. Assist in land survey activities as directed by the party chief.
2. Maintain surveying equipment and vehicle inventory.
3. Record keeping, report preparation, and related functions.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of or ability to learn mathematics, survey software, and computations.
• Knowledge of surveying instruments and their care.
• Understanding of land surveying principles and practices.
• Ability to apply land surveying knowledge effectively.
• Accurate arithmetic skills and legible record-keeping.
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
• Effective communication skills and public relations.
• Willingness to travel for out-of-town assignments.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to pass driving record checks.

Additional Tasks

• Assist with field layout and measurement.
• Prepare base maps.
• Perform calculations for elevation, areas, and volumes.
• Use tapes and electronic equipment appropriately.
• Interpret topographic maps and design drawings.
• Demonstrate understanding of survey and CAD applications.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with AutoCAD.
• Preference for local candidates.

Required Qualifications

• Associate degree or relevant experience.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience.
