We are seeking: CATV Field Sweep Technicians to troubleshoot, perform preventative maintenance, coax splicing, installation, activation, and repair of HFC distribution systems. Responsibilities include maintenance, system balancing using test equipment, setting up sweep generators, and other related duties.

Responsibilities:

  • Assess OSP hardware and infrastructure, including plant documentation, Hybrid Fiber Coax (HFC) systems, reading diagrams/drawings, maintaining accurate notes, operating bucket trucks, accessing network enclosures and nodes, and using testing gear.
  • Balance workload evenly between coax splicing and system sweep/activation tasks.
  • Correct network failures and improve performance with sweep gear and CATV test equipment.
  • Collaborate with customers, subcontractors, and team members to gather project requirements.
  • Conduct system sweeps, document findings, and generate reports.
  • Set up head end equipment and meter systems.
  • Diagnose and repair plant issues to reduce noise and impairments using tools like OTDRs, TDRs, light meters, and signal meters.
  • Perform DOCSIS 3.1 testing and assessments.
  • Calculate system signal losses and adjust systems accordingly.
  • Understand project scope and escalation processes.
  • Provide daily updates on productivity and project status.
  • Develop and share technical knowledge and stay current with advancements.
  • Install fiber optic enclosures, nodes, and related equipment.
  • Install in-line devices for system upgrades and sweeps.
  • Perform additional duties or projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • 1-3 years’ experience in coax splicing.
  • 1-3 years’ experience in HFC Sweep/Technician roles within service providers or similar.
  • Experience with upgrades in CATV OSP environments and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience splicing optical nodes, amplifiers, line extenders, taps, splitters, and power supplies in aerial and underground locations.
  • Experience setting up and optimizing optical node equipment.
  • Proficiency with TDR, locator, signal level meters, and hand tools.
  • Experience with VIAVI gear for sweep and DOCSIS testing.
  • Understanding of HFC headend systems, optics, CMTS, FTTX, and ISP basics.
  • Customer-facing experience is preferred.
  • Bucket truck and safety certifications preferred.
  • Strong record-keeping, reporting, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to read plant maps and work independently.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions and meet deadlines.
  • Alignment with company values and leadership behaviors.

Shift: Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. or 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. CST, with flexibility for system maintenance and outages.

Additional information:

  • Approximately 75% nationwide travel, typically 14 days on-site, with travel days and 5 days off at home.
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record required.
  • Must pass DOT Medical Examination for certification.
  • This is a remote position when not traveling.
