The University of Michigan is seeking a Telephone Interviewer to conduct computer-assisted telephone interviews and support various survey projects on campus. This temporary, on-site role requires evening and weekend coverage and emphasizes friendly, persuasive communication with clear data recording.
Training is provided in SSL Orientation and multiple interviewer trainings, with production running Aug 31–Dec 30, 2026. Candidates should be prepared for 16 hours weekly and a mix of shifts.

Calls will primarily be made between 2 pm to 10 pm - 7 days a week, except Fri when calling ends at 9 pm

Summary of position: This position within the Survey Services Lab (SSL) offers an excellent opportunity for candidates who are friendly, have strong persuasive communication skills, and demonstrate a patient approach. Interviewers (data collection staff) play a vital role in conducting computer-assisted telephone-based assignments such as interviews and/or other customer service-related tasks to help meet complex social research survey goals. Success in this role requires demonstrated excellence in customer relations, clear communication, effective listening, and strong deductive reasoning skills. The position also involves implementing mail survey operations, coding, providing customer assistance, and carrying out quality control functions for survey projects.
The SSL operates seven days a week, often until midnight, and this position requires coverage of evening shifts and at least one weekend shift weekly. It is located on University of Michigan’s Central Campus and requires on-site work in the office. This is a temporary position with work hours scheduled according to project assignments, offering flexibility and the opportunity to engage with a variety of survey projects.
