Job summary

McKim & Creed, Inc. is seeking a Field Survey Operations Supervisor to lead field crews across central Virginia, coordinating projects, ensuring safety, and delivering precise data.

The role requires hands-on experience in survey staking, topographic and boundary surveying, with strong problem-solving, independence, and attention to detail. Overnight travel may be required, and a valid driver’s license is essential.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 3 years progressive experience in survey field operations, with at least 1 year as crew chief.
• Experience in Construction Staking, Topographic and Boundary Surveying for Civil Site Land Development.
• Proficiency with survey equipment (total stations, data collectors and GPS).
• Must have a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

• Operate field survey crews on projects in central Virginia (Norfolk).
• Organize field work with focus on quality, safety, budget, and client responsiveness.
• Accurately collect field data and locate features; deliver data to the office.
• Maintain accurate records of work and expenses; walk outdoors in varied terrain and weather.

Job description

OVERVIEW: This person is responsible for the operation of! field survey crew. Organize field work, direct crew members, maintain a safe work environment, protect and maintain the equipment and vehicles, accurately and efficiently collect field data and locating features, deliver data to the office, maintain accurate records of work and expenses. Will work primarily in the central Virginia region.

WHAT YOU NEED:

• High School Diploma or GED.
• 3 years progressive experience in survey field operations with no less than 1 year as a survey crew chief
• Experienced performing Construction Staking, Topographic and Boundary Surveying for Civil Site Land Development.
• Good technical skills: behavioral traits of process oriented, steady, helpful, analytical, problem solver, likes work alone when required, methodical, consistent, detail oriented, precise, hates mistakes, likes structure.
• Proficiency with survey equipment (total stations, data collectors and GPS equipment).
• Some overnight travel may be required.
• Must have a valid driver's license and an acceptable motor vehicle record.

• Be responsible for the operation of field survey crews working primarily on projects in central Virginia (Norfolk).
