Job summary

McKim & Creed, Inc. is seeking a Senior Survey Project Manager to lead project teams, manage client relationships, and drive successful civil land development surveys. This role requires NC PLS licensure, 5+ years in land surveying, and strong business development instincts.

The position emphasizes overseeing budgets, schedules, and A/R while mentoring staff and expanding client engagements. An on-site role with opportunities across multiple offices is offered.

Qualifications

• Licensed Professional Land Surveyor in North Carolina (PLS) required.
• 5–15+ years of land surveying and geomatics experience including topo/boundary surveying.
• Experience managing projects and teams, client relations, and business development.
• Proficient with MS Word, Excel, and CAD.
• Strong leadership and communication; understanding of consulting business operations.
• Valid driver’s license, clean record, background check and drug test.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise a project team on projects of varying size and complexity, ensuring completion with client meetings, team communication, budget monitoring and A/R collections.
• Support business development by leading proposal preparation.
• Balance workload and allocate resources efficiently.
• Develop and maintain client relationships; serve as the key client contact.
• Negotiate effectively and exercise sound judgment on complex technical and people assignments.
• Apply extensive land surveying knowledge to provide design and project management services.
• Carry out complex assignments requiring new techniques or procedures.
• Engage in professional development and mentoring, maintaining a network within the field.

OVERVIEW: A Senior Survey Project Manager is responsible for managing existing Teams, Projects & Clients as well as supporting new business development efforts serving as a key contact with major clients. Extensive knowledge of standard practices for land surveying is necessary. Must have the capability to follow projects through to completion which includes clients' meetings, project team communication, monitoring budget and progress, and A/R collections.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

• North Carolina PLS Licensure
• 5-15+ years of experience in Land Surveying & Geomatics including Topographic & Boundary surveying, Construction staking for large Civil Land Development projects.
• Experience managing projects & teams as well as working with clients and supporting business development efforts.
• Proficient with MS Word, Excel, and CAD.
• Excellent grasp of the Geomatics fields along with leadership, team building and communication abilities.
• Excellent understanding of all aspects of the consulting business including finance, IT and human resource functions.
• A valid driver's license, an acceptable motor vehicle record, cleared background check and a negative drug test result.

DURING YOUR WORKDAY, YOU WILL:

• Successfully lead and supervise a project team on projects of all sizes and levels of complexity. Ensure that all aspects of the project are followed through to completion which includes clients' meetings, project team communication, monitoring budget and progress and A/R collections.
• Support business development efforts, lead the preparation of proposals.
• Efficiently balance workload and resources.
• Develop new, and maintain existing, client relationships. Serve as key contact with clients.
• Conduct critical negotiations and handle controversial issues. Exercise skill in persuading and negotiating of critical issues. Demonstrate good judgment in handling and solving complex technical and people assignments.
• Draw on your extensive knowledge of standard practices for land surveying. Be generally recognized as an expert in the field. Provide technical, design and project management services in support of surveying.
• Personally be able to carry out complex or novel assignments requiring the development and implementation of new or improved techniques or procedures.
• Be active in professional organizations, professional development and mentoring of staff. Maintain a network of relationships within the field.
