Job summary

McKim & Creed seeks a field operations lead to supervise the survey crew, organize field work, ensure safety, protect equipment, and collect data for civil site development in the central Virginia region (Norfolk).

The role requires 3 years of survey field ops with at least 1 year as crew chief, proficiency with total stations, GPS, and data collectors, and willingness to travel as needed. A valid driver's license is required.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 3 years progressive survey field operations with no less than 1 year as a survey crew chief.
  • Experienced performing Construction Staking, Topographic and Boundary Surveying for Civil Site Land Development.
  • Good technical skills: process oriented, analytical, problem solver, detail oriented, precise.
  • Proficiency with survey equipment (total stations, data collectors and GPS equipment).
  • Some overnight travel may be required.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and an acceptable motor vehicle record.

Responsibilities

  • Be responsible for the operation of field survey crews working primarily on projects in central Virginia (Norfolk).
  • Organize field work with objectives: quality, safety, schedules, budgets, client service.
  • Accurately and efficiently collect field data and locating features, deliver data to the office, maintain records of work and expenses.
  • Requires a lot of walking outside year-round in various terrains and weather.

OVERVIEW

This person is responsible for the operation of a field survey crew. Organize field work, direct crew members, maintain a safe work environment, protect and maintain the equipment and vehicles, accurately and efficiently collect field data and locating features, deliver data to the office, maintain accurate records of work and expenses. Will work primarily in the central Virginia region.

WHAT YOU NEED
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 3 years progressive experience in survey field operations with no less than 1 year as a survey crew chief
  • Experienced performing Construction Staking, Topographic and Boundary Surveying for Civil Site Land Development.
  • Good technical skills: behavioral traits of process oriented, steady, helpful, analytical, problem solver, likes work alone when required, methodical, consistent, detail oriented, precise, hates mistakes, likes structure.
  • Proficiency with survey equipment (total stations, data collectors and GPS equipment).
  • Some overnight travel may be required.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and an acceptable motor vehicle record.
