Job summary

UPMC West Mifflin Ambulatory Surgery Center is seeking a dedicated Surgical Technologist for a full-time role. Workweek is Monday through Friday with 8- or 10-hour shifts, no weekends or holidays, and no on-call requirements.

Qualifications

• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or Tech in Surgery-Certified (TSC) is required.
• BLS or CPR certification per AHA standards within 30 days of hire.
• Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance required.
• Graduate of a Surgical Technology program and maintain certification, or military training program, or certification maintained.
• New graduates may work up to six months after program completion but must obtain certification within six months.

Responsibilities

• Transfer patients to recovery room after surgery and restock OR.
• Serve as a resource to staff; precept students and new employees.
• Assist in preparation, care for, and disposal of specimens; apply dressings.
• Participate in committees and interdisciplinary teams.
• Assist surgical team with sterile gowns and gloves.
• Prepare OR by setting up instruments, equipment, drapes, and supplies; ensure equipment works.
• Collaborate with Clinician to disseminate new knowledge.
• Label medications and hand to surgeon per policy.
• Maintain clean, safe environment with aseptic technique.
• Prepare patients for surgery; transport, position, and cover with sterile drapes.
• During surgery, pass instruments, hold retractors, cut sutures, count supplies.
