Job summary

Mid-America Transplant is seeking a dedicated Tissue/Organ Procurement Technician to assess donor suitability and maximize tissue/eye donation for optimal outcomes. The role requires a health sciences background and sterile technique expertise, with a focus on accurate documentation and team collaboration.

The position involves 3 12-hour shifts per week (Mon-Wed, 7pm-7am), in a supportive team of four. OR experience and anatomical knowledge are highly valued as the work directly impacts donor

Qualifications

  • College degree in Life Sciences or Completion of Surgical Technologist certificate program required.
  • 1+ year prior operating room experience strongly preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of sterile technique and ability to apply sterile technique principles in a variety of settings required.
  • Ability to locate and identify common anatomical landmarks.
  • Microsoft Office capability.

Responsibilities

  • Perform the surgical removal of donated tissue, such as skin, bone, corneas, and heart valves, from donor heroes for transplant into living recipients, according to established procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Review and assess hospital medical records, electronic documentation of OR procedures, and complete physical exam/risk assessment.
  • Perform the packaging, shipping, and documentation of donated recovered tissue.
  • Successful applicant will thrive in a small team environment (team of 4) and value differences among team members with diverse perspectives.
  • Applicant should enjoy the challenge of learning and application of new skills, and adapting to a rapidly evolving tissue donation industry.

The Position

The TOPC role is a vital part of our organization. This position is responsible for assessing donor suitability and maximizing tissue and eye donation to ensure optimal outcomes for tissue processors, donor families and recipients.

Schedule Option

3 12-hour shifts per week - Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday: 7pm-7am

What You’ll Bring
  • College degree in Life Sciences or Completion of Surgical Technologist certificate program required
  • 1+ year prior operating room experience strongly preferred
  • Advanced knowledge of sterile technique and ability to apply sterile technique principles in a variety of settings required
