Job summary

UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital in Pittsburgh seeks a Surgical Technologist to join our Magnet-designated facility, renowned for nursing excellence and a broad range of surgical services. This role supports OR operations with sterile technique and instrument handling, under surgeon supervision, ensuring patient safety and aseptic standards.

Our state-of-the-art ORs and dedicated OB support teams contribute to high surgical volumes and ongoing professional growth within a respected academic affiliate

Responsibilities

• Label and hand medications to the surgeon according to established policies and procedures.
• Prepare operating room by setting up surgical instruments and equipment, sterile drapes, and sterile solutions; assemble equipment.
• Pass instruments to surgeons and assistants during surgery; hold retractors, cut sutures, sponge or suction the operative site under supervision.
• Assist in preparation, care for, and disposal of specimens for laboratory analysis and apply dressings.
• Assist surgical team with sterile gowns and gloves.
• After surgery, help transfer patients to recovery and restock the operating room.
• Prepare patients for surgery by washing, shaving, and ensuring aseptic incision sites; may transport and position patients.
