Job summary

The Miriam Hospital in Providence, RI, seeks a dedicated Surgical Technologist to provide direct patient care in the operating room. You will assist the surgical team by positioning patients, scrubbing, preparing and cleaning instruments, and restocking supplies, while maintaining confidentiality.

You will perform aseptic technique, assist in specimen care, counts, and instrument management. BLS certification and Brown University Health on-the-job training are valued assets.

Qualifications

• Must have completed an accredited surgical technologist program or an associated degree.
• Must hold current CST certification or NCCT-TC certification.
• Has 3+ years of surgical technologist experience within the past 5 years.
• Completed Brown University Health on-the-job surgical technologist training program.
• Current BLS certification is required.

Responsibilities

• Prepare operating room with anticipated supplies, instruments and equipment.
• Scrub on a variety of procedures; pass instruments, sponges, sutures; assist as needed.
• Maintain aseptic technique and a safe environment for patients and staff.
• Check equipment and instruments for proper function prior to procedures.
• Demonstrate competence in care of specimens and proper handling.
• Maintain sterile instrument table and assist in patient positioning.
• Clean and prepare room between cases and for sterilization; restock as needed.
• Keep accurate counts of medications and solutions used during procedures.
• Transport patients as needed and participate in quality improvement activities.

Education

Graduate of an accredited surgical technologist program

Graduate of a surgical technologist associate degree program

Current certification as a CST

Current NCCT-TC certification

3 years of experience within the past 5 years as a surgical technologist

Brown University Health on-the-job surgical technologist training program

Current BLS Certification
